Car Free Day 2011

Church Lane

Leytonstone Town Centre was packed today as people flocked to enjoy the music of the annual Car Free Day.

Children were joining in the fun on bouncy castle style monsters and adventure climbing walls and watching the street entertainers.

St John’s Church opened its doors and for anyone with good legs you could climb to the top of the newly restored tower to get a panoramic view across Leytonstone and towards the Olympic Park and listen to the sounds of the bellringers, who are inviting people to join them on Saturday 8 October 2011 for free sessions to find out about bellringing.

A number of local groups, residents’ groups and the Council had stalls giving out information, especially on environmental themes. There was an abundance of craft stalls and produce from local allotments.

But wafting above it all were the delicious smells of street food from all around the world, including Thai, Chinese, Indian, Mexican, Italian chocolate, olives, speciality breads, candy floss and sweets of all colours to tempt any sweet tooth.
