Leytonstone summer festivals start
Summer in Leytonstone
The sun is shining, the boats are out on Hollow Ponds, and this weekend sees the start of Leytonstone’s summer festival season kicking off with the Leytonstone Arts Trail from 6-14 July and the Leytonstone Festival from 11-21 July.
Look out as well in house and shop windows for art appearing as part of Let’s Fill Leytonstone with Art.
This month also sees the return of the Sunset over London Tower Tours at St John’s Church giving spectacular views to the City and beyond.
Mural Our Wall for Leytonstone Arts Trail and Festival
www.ItDoesTheJob.com is calling for entries to its Mural Our Wall competition for the Leytonstone Arts Trail and Leytonstone Festival.
The theme is ‘sustainability, re-using and the environment’.
The closing date is 16 May 2013.

Free paint, paintings, charity market and lots more in Leytonstone this week
Forest Recycling are giving away free paint this Saturday, there’s live music, theatre, a new art exhibition and next week a charity market at O’Neills. And lots more going on in Leytonstone. Please pass the message on!

Carne Griffiths at the Slate Gallery
An exhibition by local artist Carne Griffiths whose distinctive style uses brandy and tea for his paintings started this week at the Slate Gallery (the window space next to the Stone Space on Church Lane) and runs until 13 April.

If you have paint left over you don’t need, or you want to buy some cheap paint for decorating, Forest Recycling Project have reclaimed paint available for a suggested £1 litre. The mayor of Waltham Forest, Cllr Richard Sweden, will be attending and will be raising money for his charity Leyton Orient Community Sports Programme. The event is organised by the Ward councillors and supported by local schools and churches.

Christmas markets and carols with the Mayor
The Christmas lights are up in Leytonstone and this week sees the Christmas season really get going with Christmas markets this weekend at St John’s, The Methodist Church and the Lion Heart Market and Christmas carols in the town centre on Thursday led by the Mayor of Waltham Forest.

Car Free Day 2012 photos

Car Free Day this Sunday
Leytonstone’s annual Car Free Day is this Sunday with its usual selection of live music, community stalls and a French market.
Car Free Day is held outside the tube station, in Kirkdale Road and Church Lane, so buses will be diverted and these roads closed to cars.
Sunday will be the last day of the Stone Space Thread’Bare exhibition and the Present Exhibition will be open in the pop up exhibition space outside Leytonstone tube, with Leytonstone Museum holding a viewing session in the same space on the Sunday too.
